Tesla AI Day: Elon Musk teases the Optimus robot, self-driving updates and artificial intelligence

Daily Mail - Science & tech

After months of tweets and teases, Elon Musk is attempting to manage expectations ahead of Tesla's AI Day tonight. The tech company's humanoid Optimus robot - teased at last year's artificial intelligence event by a person in a spandex costume - is expected to be the star of the show. Tesla on Friday morning shared a short clip of a pair of robotic hands making a heart shape. The Tesla CEO said that people can expect'lots of technical detail and cool hardware demos' at the Palo Alto, California event that's being livestreamed beginning at 5 pm Pacific Time. Whatever the state of the robot prototype, it has massive implications for everything from manufacturing to domestic life, the service industry, healthcare and more.

Elon Musk teases 'working Neuralink device' reveal on August 28th

Engadget

Elon Musk has revealed more details about a promised development update for Neuralink, the brain-computer interface designed to help folks with severe brain injuries. Musk said the company will show a "working Neuralink device" during a live webcast on Friday, August 28th at 3PM PT/6PM ET. Last summer, Neuralink showed off its progress at a detailed launch event. A "sewing machine" robot would plant thread-like electrodes deep in to a human brain, which would connect to a pod worn behind the ear. That could then transmit brain signals over Bluetooth, allowing subjects to control a computer or have their brain activity monitored.

Elon Musk teases he's building a futuristic running track that will let astronauts jog in SPACE

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Elon Musk wants to let astronauts run track in space. And the billionaire tech mogul is taking a page from the iconic sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey in order to make it happen. In a tweet on Friday, Musk posted a GIF of David Bowman, the main character of Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film, where he can be seen running around a track in space. Elon Musk tweeted that he would be building a running track on the Big F***ing Rocket (pictured in an artist's impression), similar to the one shown in 2001: A Space Odyssey'Running track in @SpaceX BF Spaceship will look something like this,' Musk wrote in a tweet. The BF spaceship, or as Musk calls it, the Big F***ing Rocket, is a 348ft tall spacecraft that is a key player in his plans to make humans a'multi-planetary species' and one day develop a colony on Mars.

An AI upgrade for your brain, Elon Musk teases the Neural Lace

#artificialintelligence

Worried that AI's one day could make us their pets Elon Musk is teasing a new brain-hacking tech There's no doubting that Elon Musk is one busy guy. Whether he's trying to land on Mars with SpaceX, running Tesla, buying SolarCity, investing in the future of AI, building Giga factories or throwing out Hyperloop concepts for fun but it's increasingly apparent that he's giving a huge amount of thought to the day when advanced AI's become the most intelligent form of "life" on the planet. With the advances that we are already seeing in AI it's inevitable that one day – sooner rather than later humans will, comparatively speaking, be as intelligent to an AI as pets are to us today. To that end, the billionaire polymath has revealed he may be working on something called a "Neural Lace", a nanotechnology based device that you can think of as being a digital upgrade for your brain. Human intelligence combined with the power of AI – a digital layer directly overlaid onto the brains cortex.
